STYX Projectstoffering is a modern project fit-out company for the commercial market. We serve our clients efficiently through a nationwide network. Because we are building our company from the ground up, we have the opportunity to embed sustainability directly into how we work. We don’t go in for big words or empty promises. That’s why we’re happy to share our honest account of how we work greener here.
We provide flooring and window treatments for the spaces where the Netherlands works, learns and grows. Because we literally lay the foundation for these spaces, we believe that foundation should also be responsible. We’re not 100% circular yet, but we make conscious, practical choices on every project.
What we already do today
As a partner for contractors, housing associations, owners’ associations (VvE’s), architects and facility managers, we integrate sustainability into our daily craftsmanship:
- Considered material choices — Sustainability starts with what you put on the floor. We work with renowned manufacturers and make a considered material choice for every project. In doing so, we look not only at technical properties and appearance, but increasingly also at the environmental impact and recyclability of materials.
- Maximum lifespan & preservation — A floor that lasts for decades is by definition more sustainable. Our permanent, experienced tradespeople strictly follow specifications, which guarantees lifespan. We also offer specialised maintenance and renovation for existing floors. By preserving what is good, we prevent unnecessary waste together.
- Emissions, efficiency and CO2 reduction — As main contractor, we manage the entire process: from survey to purchasing, planning and delivery. Because we hold the reins, we think about emissions and efficiency at every stage. By planning smartly within our nationwide network, we prevent unnecessary travel and transport kilometres. This results in a tight project delivery and a direct CO2 reduction.
Our challenges and goals for the future
We are transparent about what we can still improve. Fully circular raised access floors or second-life carpet tiles are among the possibilities, but in practice still prove financially or logistically challenging for some projects. This is what we’re working towards in the coming years:
- Advising on circular options as standard — When choosing soft or hard flooring, or window treatments, we want to include the circular alternative in our advice as standard, so that you as a client always have a sustainable option.
- Supply chain collaboration — We want to align our purchasing even more closely with suppliers who have demonstrable return programmes for recycling or reprocessing old flooring.
